The links above make it clear that the church is about you,  not the buildings, the leaders or even the busy programme of activities. This short video clip perhaps explains this more fully:

  • Zion Chapel, built in 1820

  • the Manna house, opened in 1990

  • the Bayeux Centre, opened November 2002.

We offer a range of facilities and activities for all ages seven days a week.

There are various publications on the history of Battle Baptist Church. On March 28th 1780 the Battle Baptist Church was formed with 15 members and they chose William Vidler as their Pastor. He was paid £17-00 per annum! Until 1790 the congregation met in the room of a house in the town, then in the old Presbyterian building. On April 11th 1790 a new building was opened for the membership of 150 at a cost of about £860-00.

A split in the church meant that in 1798 another building was built for £107 that would accommodate up to 200 people. it was used for 23 years by the adults, and a further 70 years by the Sunday School before being demolished. It stood on the site of Florence Cottages (by the side of the present Roman Catholic Church). On February 27th 1821 the existing Zion Chapel and burial ground was opened.

A full profile of the church can be found by clicking on the photograph of our building! Do you realise that in the last decade Battle Baptist Church has equipped 5 members to go into the wider mission field as Baptist Ministers, 2 couples to work overseas with the Baptist Missionary Society, and a number of individuals to work in the wider ministry with churches in other towns and cities.
