Elders are appointed for three years at the AGM. Our current elders are:

Andy Garlick is a full-time elder at Battle Baptist Church. His main responsibilities are for children’s mission and Battle Baptist Church Football Club. He also provides support to pastors, deacons, and other ministry leaders.
Andy is married to Jo, and together they have 4 children who are in their late teens and early twenties. They came to Battle Baptist as a family in 1996 and shortly after Andy and Jo were baptized. The church were privileged to have Andy come and work with them full-time in 2005, after having spent 22 years in Civil Service management.
Andy says he finds being in full-time ministry very busy, but loves serving in an active and ambitious church. When he finds some free time he spends it watching sport (an avid supporter of Tottenham Hotspurs). He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Jo, discovering new places.
Andy’s dream for the church is to see it grow again after a time of giving-way.

John Southam is employed full-time at the church as Church Manager, as well as being an elder. He became involved with the church with his wife, Ann, in the 1980’s. This fresh encounter with God led him to re-commit his life and be baptized. In 1998 John was elected as a deacon, three years later in 2001 he was asked to be an elder.
John’s main work responsibility is to oversee the premises and manage the logistics of all the activities of the church – no small feat in such a busy and active church! He is chair of the Caterpillar PreSchool Management Committee. Much of the week is spent in looking after the premises – in particular the IT and communications, supporting the pastor and the church members.
John hopes that Battle Baptist Church will continue to experience the joy of sharing the Gospel with the local community in a variety of ways, using all the talents and resources God has given His people for His glory.

Jo Garlick joined the church along with her husband and four children in 1996. In 2006 the church asked Jo to become an elder and were delighted when she agreed. Jo’s main responsibility is to oversee the music-life of the church. She is also on the youth leadership team.
Jo works in the Caterpillar Preschool as our Deputy Manager for 3.5 days a week. In her free time (!) she enjoys going for walks, catching up with friends, and spending time with her husband Andy.

Francis Willoughby has worked part-time at the church as Associate Pastor since 2004 and shortly after was appointed as an elder. He has a widely varied background, from factory work, to insurance work, to acting, to teaching and serving God overseas.
Francis’ and his wife Sylvia both suffered from cancer, and in 2004 Sylvia passed on to glory. Francis has 3 children and 6 grandchildren!

Rob Duffill has also been the Church Treasurer for many years. He has recently semi retired from the accountancy business he set up in Battle. Rob and his wife Shelagh, together with their three children (who have all since married and moved away!) have worshipped at Battle Baptist Church for more than 20 years.

Ben Garlick formerly served the church as a deacon. He is on the leadership team for our 5pm gathering for Informal Worship and together with his wife is active in youth ministry and runs a housegroup. As our youngest team member, he still has a short distance to travel before his 30th birthday! His employment with a local company takes him to different parts of the U.K. on a regular basis

At the Church AGM it was agreed that Esther Dunn (who works in the Church Office as Ministry Support Worker) would be the minute secretary to the Elders.
