ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is based on the ancient Buddhist belief and that of Taoism. Simply it is a denial of any particular god and yet a belief in every god. Tao is, so it is said by those who believe in Buddhism, “the way”. [Internal enlightenment and sufficiency].

The ancient Chinese believed that there was a universal life energy called Chi or Qi [pronounced chee] present in every living creature. This energy was said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways [called meridians]. The idea of acupuncture is to re-program the lines using needles, by stimulation of certain points on the meridians, to free up the ‘Chi’ energy.

The balances within the body they refer to as the ‘ying’ and the ‘yang’. This represents the ancient Chinese medical answer to problems of people in pain, as well as problems of the world. Their medical plan is to move the ‘yings’ and the ‘yangs’ around, by puncturing the body, with needles, sometimes also using herbal remedies. The Chinese claim to have been doing this for over 5,000 years.

Many folk go along with this, because the belief of those who engage in this practice, is to welcome every god, so folk feel included.

A Doctor who believes in acupuncture, says this:

The danger for the Christian is that acupuncture can incorporate new age ideas, together with the ancient Chinese medical practice. One should always pray for spiritual protection if undergoing acupuncture.

The problem I believe for the Christian is this; if Taoism is ‘THE WAY’, how can we reconcile that with the words of Jesus, who claims to be “the way, the truth and the life”.
